How Our Furniture and Walls Affect the Sound We Hear?

A rooms design, as well as the materials available such as furniture, can highly affect the sound we hear. Unless you understand how this works, it may be difficult for you to arrange your furniture or modify your room based on the walls for better sound. People who understand how this works plan their houses better, and as a result, they experience better sound. Mostly from music systems.

The most important aspect of this effect is caused by reverberation time. Reverberation time is the measure of in of an echo one hears in a room. That is how much time the echo takes to travel in a room until you hear the sound.

Walls and Sound

Walls of a house affect how you hear sound due to the echo produces. A house that does not produce echo is a dead room. Other things related to walls and sound is the size and shape of the walls. Large walls allow better bouncing of sound. As a result, they improve how much echo produced by any sound can travel.

The size of your walls is also related to the length of the walls from the ground to the ceiling. The taller they are, the longer the reverberation. As a result, any sound produced is amplified to circulate the room.

The number of walls in your room also contributes to how you hear a sound. It contributes to how much sound is redirected by the walls. When a source produces sound, it hits the walls then redirected the rest of the house. As a result, a high number of walls will improve the bouncing of sound in a room.

Furniture and Sound

Furniture in a house affects how you hear sound due to the movement of sound. Particular furniture absorbs sound while others diffuse sound. Based on the type of furniture you have in your room, it will affect how you hear the sound. Other than the kind of furniture, the way they are placed is a significant factor in how you hear a sound.

When you hear a lot of sound from the outside is because your furniture does not provide any absorption. Means that your furniture is not soundproof. Some examples of soundproof furniture include sofas and chairs with push fabrics such as chenille and microfiber. When sound moves into the house, this furniture can absorb. When pillows are added to such furniture, it improves soundproof ability. A good example is when a lot of noise is coming from a neighboring house. Putting such furniture along the wall blocks the sound.

There is another type of furniture that diffuses sound. Such furniture is essential as it makes you hear the sound clearer and well distributed in a room. These are furniture that diffuse echoes in a room. Furniture such as wooden tables, chairs, bookshelves, and books are good at diffusing sound. When all this furniture is evenly placed in a house, and large distances from one another make the sound to travel further. As a result, it affects how you hear sound in your room by amplifying it.

When you are concerned about the sound you hear in your room, the best way to deal with it is to make the right modifications. You can modify a room to allow excellent sound circulation hence enabling you to hear the sound the way you want it. Finding an expert or research enough is the first step towards creating a room that can allow sound to more according to your liking. Good sound movement in a room is from all sources; people, music systems, or other sound-producing objects.

Clean Your Room Today: Magic Tricks To Keep Everything Nice & Tidy With No Sweat

You know that exhausting feeling you get when you step into your room, and it’s all messy and scattered? When you think about cleaning up the room and tidying the place, it seems like an overwhelming task. Most times you even procrastinate, telling yourself, you would clean it up later.

However, cleaning your room can be quite straightforward. But first, you have to understand that your room is like your place of sanctuary. Your quiet place, if you need to be alone or clear your head, you can get into your room. An untidy room can affect your mood and mind negatively.

As tedious as cleaning a room might seem, there are ways to make the process fun and fast. Before you know it, you are done without breaking a sweat.

Quick Tips to Keeping Your Room Clean and Tidy

It is essential to get in the right headspace before you start cleaning else you would end up spending longer than you should. Here are a few guidelines to follow to enable clean your room and have fun while doing it.

1. Listen to Music

Before you start the process of cleaning, select your preferred playlist, and listen. There are different genres of music that are suitable for different moods and purposes. In my opinion, choose the playlist that has fast and energetic songs. This will help you get the job done in no time.

2. Open the Room Windows and Blinds

This will give room for natural light and air to come into your room. You need light to see and that fresh air to spike up your energy level.

3. Clear Your Bed and Lay It

Making your bed is usually the easiest and quickest step when cleaning your room. In less than 5 minutes you are done with the bed. Once your bed is tidy an arranged, your room instantly has an improved look which will further motivate you to clean up the entire room. Endeavor to change your sheets often and replace them with cleaner ones.

4. Don’t Keep Clothes on the Floor

Always try not to keep clothes on the floor. The room instantly feels messy and scattered once you have clothes littered on the floor. If you still end up dropping clothes on the floor, pick all of them up and sort out the clean from the dirty ones. Take the dirty ones and put them in the wash basket, and the clean ones should be neatly folded or hung in the wardrobe.

5. Clear out Garbage

Pick up any form of garbage you can find in your room and trash it in a bin. By doing this, you are clearing up space and reducing clutter in the room. More so, always empty your trash bin when it’s full. Be cautious of the type of garbage you put in the trash. Avoid items that can attract ants and insects.

6. Do Not Eat in your Room

This is the norm for most people, and in my opinion, it isn’t healthy. Whenever you eat in bed, you expose your room to food crumbs and a collection of spoons plates, bowls, etc. This habit will make you have ants and bugs as your roommates. If in any case eating in your room is now a habit, make sure you make it a habit of clearing out the dishes when cleaning your room.

7. Organize other Items in your Room

Gather all these things to the center of the room, like hangers, deodorants, accessories, books, etc. In so doing, you create more space as well as make it easier to sort of where each of these items belongs. Also makes it easy to sort out things you no longer need.

8. Sweep and Mop the floor if necessary

Once you are through arranging and tidying up the room, get a broom and sweep all the dirt and dust and gather all to form a pile before using a dustpan to pack and dispose of it. Then if necessary, get a mop and dip into a bucket of soapy water and use it to wipe the floor.

9. Dust the Surfaces

To end it all, use a duster to wipe out every form of dirt or stain from your desk, fans, shelves, lamps, amongst other surfaces. Start from the top and work your way down, so you avoid taking dirt from where you have not cleaned to where you have already cleaned.

Guide To Choosing The Perfect Hardwood

Guide To Choosing The Perfect Hardwood

From floors and doors to home furniture, hardwood is used to make a variety of items found in most homes. They’re generally more durable and denser than softwoods, although not all are harder than soft timber. While you can easily identify hard timber trees by characteristics such as their leaves, distinguishing hardwood from softwood may not be that easy, and especially when they’re in the form of furniture or flooring material. Mostly, we characterize hardwoods by their darker color or heavyweight, but not all bear these attributes, some types of soft timber are darker and denser. Therefore, whether you’re looking for hardwood flooring or a piece of hardwood furniture, you need to consider several other factors before you carry the item home.

Guide To Choosing The Perfect Hardwood

To help you make the perfect choice of hardwood for your flooring material or home furniture, we’ll look at some features that clearly distinguish hardwoods from softwoods.

Naturally, hard timber is denser than soft timber, though there are some exceptions. For instance, if you visit a furniture store, you’ll notice that some pieces are heavier and harder than others. If you’re looking for furniture pieces made of hard timber, the heavier and harder ones, are most likely what you’re looking for. However, you should notice that not all heavy pieces are made of hardwood; some are made of softwood, and before concluding, consider other factors like the grain color.

Wood Grain and Color

The type and arrangement of cells in a tree species determine the wood grain and color. Every species has its particular wood grain and color, and as much as they vary from tree to tree, these characteristics can always be used to identify the type of wood. Hardwoods have large tubular cells visible in the wood as pores. Large cells give the wood a rough texture, and in this case, a filler may be used to smoothen the surface. Normally, hardwoods have a richer and finer-textured grain than softwoods, and this is indicated by their darker color. Moreover, they’ve got distinctive patterns, and they don’t require staining to give them color. Therefore, as you choose your furniture or wood material for flooring, ensure your wood choice is dark-colored and with larger grains.

Guide To Choosing The Perfect Hardwood

Wood Combinations

Most modern furniture is made of two or more kinds of wood to cut down on cost. Where appearance is important, such as tabletops, rare types of woods are used, but for less noticeable structural pieces like table and chair legs, less valuable wood is used. This multiple-wood construction isn’t always easy to tell at first glance not until you remove the old finish. For instance, you may buy a piece of furniture thinking that it’s made of hardwood, only to realize some of its parts have been stained to match the quality wood parts. If you land a multiple-wood furniture piece by mistake, you may have to stain and finish the low-quality wood to match the high-quality wood.

How To Choose Perfect Hardwood Floors

While you’d still consider the factors above when choosing wood material for flooring, there’s more you should look into. Hardwood species have unique coloration and grain pattern, and depending on your taste, you should be able to get durable flooring material. Here’s what to consider if you want to get the best hardwood flooring.

Guide To Choosing The Perfect Hardwood

Gloss and Finish

To increase the durability of your hardwood floor, and protect it from general wear and tear, it’s essential to choose a finish for your floor. The finish you choose will have a profound effect on your hardwood floor’s appearance, and so, you should keep two factors in mind; color and sheen. Finishes can either be clear, or colorful and depending on your taste you can either go for bright colors like red or gray.

Plank Width

Guide To Choosing The Perfect HardwoodWhile there’s a standard width for hardwood floor, narrow and wide widths are options that are often available for installation. Narrow plank widths make a room look more complex, especially when installing in certain patterns. On the other hand, wide planks make the room look more spacious and open. Moreover, they allow for more of the natural wood grain pattern to stand out.

Whether you’re looking for hardwood furniture or perfect hardwood flooring, the factors above will help you get what’s valuable.

This applies more for shoe lovers. You could be living alone or with someone and have so many shoes and sometimes turn a blind eye to the space those shoes are occupying. Getting a shoe shelve can help you carefully arrange the shoes in them. Want to be more creative? You can get a dresser that has pull-out drawers where you can also place the shoes. This dresser can be kept in the living room and gives you an extra surface area to place other items in your house.

  1. Office Wall Space in Kitchen

You can maximize the space on your kitchen wall and turn it into decorative storage for utensils. Install wood on the wall space, and you can decide to paint the wood a color that complements the one in your kitchen. On the wood attach hooks and then determine which items will fit there without causing any sudden accidents. You can hang things like cooking spoons, pans, and pots.

However, bed-frames can come with pull-out drawers under the bed that can help you store items in a more organized manner. If you place the mattress on the floor and possess a lot of books. You can install a bookshelf under the bed where you can stack all your books neatly.
